PowerBilt helps bring players and scholarship program together

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. – The cost of higher education has gotten lower for three golfers who played this year in Kentucky on the Musselman-Dunne Junior & College Golf Tour. Scholarships totaling $6,000 have been announced by organizations involved in the program, which are PowerBilt Golf, the Kentucky Junior Golf Foundation, the Golf Headquarters store in Louisville and the HB Foundation. The recipients, who enrolled in college this fall, each received $2,000. They are:

Gina Nuzzo of Louisville, Ballard High graduate, attending Murray State University
Taylor Riggs of LaGrange, Oldham County High graduate, attending Eastern Kentucky University
Joshua Griffin of Shelbyville, Shelby County High graduate, attending Eastern Kentucky University

PowerBilt, the venerable clubmaker based in Louisville, played a catalyst role in bringing together the sponsors and the tour to create the scholarship program, which is administered by the HB Foundation.

“We all share a common goal, which is to grow the game of golf,” says Ross Kvinge, president of PowerBilt. “The best way to do this is to invest in young people who have proven they can succeed on and off the golf course.” The winners were chosen based on their playing ability plus their academics, citizenship (community activities) and extracurricular school activities.

“When you turn a kid on to golf, it becomes a game they can enjoy for life,” says Tony McLaughlin, owner and operator of the Golf Headquarters store on Shelbyville Road. “By participating in this scholarship program, Golf Headquarters is proud to play a role in helping some of the best young golfers in our area continue their education so that they can get ahead in life.”

Each year, hundreds of golfers from around Kentucky participate in the Musselman-Dunne Junior & College Golf Tour, which is run by the Kentucky Junior Golf Foundation. “Our program has been awarding scholarships since 1991,” says Drew Conliffe, executive director of the tour and a PGA professional. “Bringing in the HB Foundation with the help of PowerBilt and Golf Headquarters is a great boost for our program.”

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. – The cost of higher education has gotten lower for six golfers who played this year on the Northwest Junior Golf Tour. PowerBilt and Puetz Golf have announced the recipients of a $10,000 scholarship program for Washington state golfers who recently began their first year of college. The winners, with each receiving $1,650, are:

Earlier this year, the HB Foundation announced a 10-year commitment to providing scholarships for Washington state students. The Foundation is working with PowerBilt, Puetz Golf and Northwest Junior Golf Tour to promote the scholarship program. Its collective effort to grow the game of golf while using the game to enhance the quality of life.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – High-school seniors playing on the Pepsi Junior Golf Tour in Kentucky this year are eligible for scholarships totaling $10,000. Four golfers will receive scholarships of $2,500 each based on their playing ability, academic achievements, extra-curricular school activities and community service.

PowerBilt played the catalyst role in bringing together various groups to make the scholarship program a reality. The tour is sponsored by Pepsi and run by KGA-KPGA – the Kentucky Golf Association and the Kentucky Section PGA (Professional Golf Association). PowerBilt brought in the HB Foundation, which is providing the scholarship money, then organized the scholarship program.

A total of 62 grants have been awarded since that time. “The grants provided through the HB Foundation will assist the Baker-Geary-Dune Foundations legacy to provide young men and women who would have a very difficult time attending college without one of these grants,” says PGA Professional Drew Conliffe.

Over the years Powerbilt has been one of the
legendary names in the golf club business, having
been in the bags of the many tournament winners
including Fuzzy Zoeller. The irrepressible Zoeller won
12 times on the PGA Tour and 10 were with Powerbilt
including a Master’s and an U.S. Open. The point
being, this division of Hillerich and Bradsy Co. (Bionic
gloves and Louisville Slugger bats), has been making
clubs since 1916 and has strong credentials from
their past success. Today they continue to be
innovative and forward looking.

The Air Force One driver (a great name for a driver!) was
introduced two years ago with the usual features and
benefits of the now de'rigueur-a titanium head and
graphite shafts driver. However Powerbilt figured out
how to add really different…nitrogen gas.

As with a lot of new things there was a good deal of
skepticism in the trade as in, “This has to be another
gimmick,” and “So what good does nitrogen do? Any?”

The Air Force One clubhead had nitrogen gas under
high pressure to support the head structure which
allowed Powerbilt engineers to make a much thinner
face without having to use internal supports.
The Air Force One - Air Foil 2 for this year comes in
two models. The high-MOI (top) and the Tour
(bottom). Both have are filled with nitrogen gas
under pressure which allows the club face to be very
thin.
A thinner face means more trampoline effect at impact
and therefore more ball speed which in turn equates to
more distance.

Powerbilt says the trampoline effect of the Air Force One
is right at the maximum allowed by the USGAThe use of
high pressure nitrogen in sports equipment is not new
having been in race car tires and baseball bats for
years. It helps race cars run faster and gives bats have a
larger sweet spot for more hits.

The new version of the Air Force One is the Air Force
One – Air Foil 2. The nitrogen is under 85 psi pressure
and the clubface is about 20 percent thinner than most
others coming in at only 2.6 mm thick. There are two
models; a high-MOI driver designed to lower the amount
of side spin for $249 and the Air Foil 2 Tour model with
less offset, a more compact appearance at address and
a price of $299 including a stock Fujikura Motore F-3
shaft.

Powerbilt also added this year Air Foil 2 fairway woods,
hybrids and even Hollow N7 irons all “gassed up” with
nitrogen just like the driver. Suggested retail for the
fairways is $149, for the hybrids $119 and for a set of
irons (4-PW) $599 or $799 graphite shafted.
Powerbilt has introduced both hyrids and fairways using
the pressureized nitrogen gas for improved performance.

2011 junior clubs unveiled; HB Foundation to donate $5 million in scholarships

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. – PowerBilt Golf continues to focus on the junior golf market in 2011. The company takes seriously its position as the best choice for junior golfers by continually advancing manufacturing quality and game-improvement products. Plus, through a partnership with the HB Foundation, PowerBilt is proud to offer a junior scholarship fund that will further enhance the experience for young golfers and help mold the stars of tomorrow.

The new junior clubs available this spring include sets for players as young as 3. “These clubs are definitely not toys, though,” says Ross Kvinge, president of PowerBilt’s U.S. operations. “More than a decade ago, PowerBilt helped to redefine the junior club market by making clubs that fit their style of play and are like the adult clubs they will eventually use.”

The materials are top-notch, with an oversized, hot-forged driver. All clubs are fitted with ultra-light, high-modulus and junior-flex graphite shafts. The box sets include age-appropriate configurations, starting with the Orange Series (for ages 3-5), which includes a 320 cc driver, wedge, putter, stand bag and head cover. The sets continue up through the Red Series (for ages 12+), which includes a 380 cc driver, 5 hybrid, 7 iron, wedge, putter, stand bag and two head covers. The irons feature an undercut cavity design, which helps enlarge the sweetspot and enhance club performance.

To further encourage these young golfers, PowerBilt has partnered with the HB Foundation to invest in the future of golf with a $5 million commitment to junior golf. The Foundation will donate up to 50 scholarships a year based on several criteria, including academic achievement, playing ability, community activities and extra-curricular activities.

This year, five college scholarships of $2,000 each will be awarded to students in the Sacramento area.

“This is a great example of two heritage brands coming together to invest in the future of the game,” says Ross Kvinge, president of PowerBilt’s U.S. operations. “Both PowerBilt and Haggin Oaks have been around for the better part of the past century helping golfers of all types, from beginners to champions. With this scholarship program, we want to play a role in helping young golfers not only improve their game, but succeed in life as well.”

The scholarships will be administered through the Morton Golf Foundation (Haggin Oaks) and the HB Scholarship Foundation (PowerBilt) and will be awarded to five individual high school seniors. Eligible students are those who’ve gone through any Northern California Golf Association, The First Tee of Greater Sacramento (SAY Golf) or high school golf programs. I had to write.

My name is John Moyer. I had 4 heart attacks and Quadrupal bypass surgery in 2001 @ the age of 29. My game has suffered ever since. Although I am blessed to be healthy as I am, I do have distance issues and a low ball flight. To battle this I have owned Ping, Callaway. Wlison, Adams, Golden Bear, King Cobra. With little success.

I recently was at it again and this time I had a chance to hit about 11 different sets of irons. All Major brands,2010 models and older. Even though I own the N7 driver the powerbilt N7's irons were my last try. I had settled on a set of Cleveland Launcher combo's. Even though I was not impressed enough to trade in my 2005 Berta's.

Then just to say I tried them all, I hit your N7 6 iron. Wow!!!! I swear it was like no other iron I had ever hit. Instant 10 yard gain and the ball went 20 yards higher than my Bertha's. I couldn't believe it. Maybe I was putting a better swing on it.So I would pound two N7's far and straight, then pick up a Diablo Edge or Ping G15. Same swing, totally different flight and FEEL. Just ugly! I kept this up for an hour or so. same thing over and over. Didn't matter what brand name. None came CLOSE to the N7 irons. I now own a set and maybe not breaking any records, but love to hit my irons.
Powerbilt has done it. Thank you, from the bottom of my cup!!!!

P.S. I feel like I'm in on some kind secret or something. Golf Digest list didn't even mention your irons. That's SAD!

This is LeRoy Mason, I purchased the Air Force One Irons and woods at the Fredericksburg demo day. I have to say that the Air Force One is the best golf club I have ever hit period... The driver and woods and irons are phenomenal. I wanted to wait until I got some serious rounds under my belt before writing you. I have played about 20 rounds since we last spoke. I am more than pleased with my set of clubs and will never hit another set.

Mr Saldutti,I had the priviledge of being selected to represent the United States in the World University Golf Championship which was held this last week June 9-11 in Malaga, Spain. The competition involved teams from 20 different countries from all across the world. It was an amazing experience to be able to compete at such a high level and experience the atmosphere which accompanies such a grand event.I also was playing my first tournament with the PowerBilt driver which was made for me with an extra stiff shaft. I never thought the day would come when I would remove my Titleist driver which I had won 8 college tournaments with from my bag, but once I hit the PowerBilt I put it in my bag immediately. The first thing I noticed was the distance I still got from mishit shots. Anyone company can make a driver hit it long and straight when struck on the center of the clubface, but not everyone can make a driver hit it regular distances from mishit shots.I decided to play the PowerBilt driver for my golf tournament in Spain. It was funny to hear and see all the reactions I got when I told them I was hitting a PowerBilt driver. Many people believe PowerBilt is a washed up old company, and they were surprised to see such a great product come from PowerBilt. After explaining the driver and some of the technology that is behind it, everyone wanted to hit the driver and they were impressed with the feeling and sound of the club.All in all, I can say the PowerBilt driver will stay in my bag for a long time, because PowerBilt has created a driver that performs superbly on mishit shots. I will continue to market the driver to everyone, because I believe it is a superior product!Also, if you will please tell Mr. Wilson thanks for the hookup he gave me with the Extra-Stiff shaft in the 10.5* loft.Thanks again for such a great product!-Austin Conroy

Mr. Potter just thought I would drop you a short email in regards to your Air Force One Air Foil Tour Driver. I got it last Tuesday at about 11:00, I was on my way to the driving range and the door bell rang, Fed-EX dropped the box off. Off to the range I went. Our range is about 280, after warming up with short irons I hit my new driver. I immediately began bouncing, range balls (dead ones) one hop to the fence in a crossing to head wind. That got me excited so instead of practicing I went and played. It was a winding day 15 gusting to 20 mph, I played badly on the front shot 48 but…wasn’t use to hitting 60 yard chips to par 4’s. On the back side a little better 38. I missed only two drives the 18. This Monday the 24th I played with my new driver in my regular skin’s game. Now I am a 12 handicap, I broke 80 for the first time in about 3 years shot 79, Eagled the 1st hole 525 par. I hit driver 305 and 4 to with 3 feet, ching ching (won the skin) anyway 38 front/41 back on a par 72 course. I consistently out drove my opponents all day, not by feet, by 20 to 40 yards. Your driver is fantastic, don’t know why it is not getting more press, Went to the PGA store weeks ago tried all of the big names Ping, Adams, TourEdge, Titleist, Cleveland, also we had demo day at our club, Taylor Made, Nike, Cobra and the rest were there. None were better than my 10 year old driver. Your is…... Its long its’ very forgiving and you can turn it like butter…. I liked it so much even before my play yesterday; I ordered and have received the 3 wood. I am going to the range after I finish this email. Bottom line you have created a fantastic product. When I ordered this club, I bought it on three pay, thinking I would be returning it, NOT A CHANCE. Glad to give you the 249.00 and others would be wise to do the same.
